Shekinah D’Brass is a soon-to-be freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her predominant interest lies in understanding the physical, chemical, and biological behavior of different components of the climate and their interactions. She will be pursuing a degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Shekinah, who is originally from India, moved to the U.S. with her parents. She believes that the difference in culture was intimidating and overwhelming at first but eventually turned out to be an exciting and liberating experience. She still incorporates a lot of Indian cultural and traditional art into her work. She enjoys being a part of clubs which support environmental protection and societies that endorse sustainability and conservation. She also likes to spend her spare time volunteering and caring for elderly residents, primarily suffering from dementia, at a local retirement community.
